Frequently Asked Questions

How many lessons do I need?

This varies greatly from person to person, but on average 17 year olds may need around 40 hours, it is the driving standard that needs to be high, not the number of hours taken. However, the number of hours can depend on your previous experience, age and ability/willingness to learn.

We recommend you do a minimum of 1 and a half hours for every lesson.

What car do I use for my Tuition/Test?

We use a variety of modern cars; they all have dual controls, ABS, power steering, fully adjustable driver's seat making the cars suitable for your lessons and your test, etc. We offer manual vehicles only.

Can I do motorway lessons?

Yes, we offer additional motorway lesson, post passing your test. Motorways are not currently covered in driving lessons prior to passing your test, nor will you be expected to use a motorway on your test.

Will you help me with the Theory and Hazard Perception Test?

We will help as much as possible. We can advise you of the best materials available to prepare you for the hazard perception and the Q&A and we will be on hand to answer any questions and give advice. We can discuss any problems that you find along the way, theory and practical sides of driving are taught side-by-side. We also have links to the complete Highway Code and practice test- take a look at our helpful sites page.

I want to take a car test and I already hold a full motorcycle licence. Do I need to pass a theory test?

If you obtained a full motorcycle licence before 1 February 2001, you are exempt from passing your car theory test. However, if you are unsure, please call the DSA for more advice. If you passed your motorcycle test after 1 February 2001, you will need to pass a car theory test before taking a practical test.

Can I use my own car for the practical test?

Yes, you are allowed to use your own car. However, you must ensure that you have a rear view mirror for the examiner's use.

How can I be sure I will receive a satisfactory service?

We are a team of fully qualified driving instructors with years of experience. We are checked regularly for our standards of teaching by the DSA and have Grade A (the highest grade) instructors to help you every step of the way. We abide by the Driving Standards Agency Code of Conduct. We pride ourselves on a high pass rate. We know that your satisfaction and recommendation is our best form of advertising.
